Swaraj India exposes rampant corruption in Delhi govt’s Transport department.

FIR filed against govt officials (Transport Department’s MLO and MVI) on court orders
• Case based on fraudulent permit transfer of a deceased auto driver through forged papers
• No action by Delhi Police or Delhi government yet despite FIR being registered
• Delhi Govt must suspend MLO and MVI with immediate effect
• CBI inquiry must be ordered in all cases where permit transfers have been obtained in names of deceased, female or senior-citizen auto-drivers
• Transport minister must resign taking responsibility for rampant corruption in the department: Anupam
• In case of no action, Delhi’s auto-drivers to protest against the corruption prevalent in Transport ministry of Delhi government

On December 22 last year, newly formed political party Swaraj India had exposed a major scandal going on in the Transport Ministry of Delhi government in the name of fraudulent permit transfers. Citing examples, the party leaders had highlighted a special case in which permit of a deceased auto-driver was transferred to another auto-driver using forged documents. The transfer was made without even informing the family of the deceased auto-driver. The fraud happened with collusion of Transport Department’s MLO, MVI and private brokers. The deceased auto-driver’s mother Shanti Devi had herself narrated the story. Expressing her anguish, she said that she had approached the concerned officials and leaders of the ruling party in Delhi government but to no avail and that Swaraj India has firmly stood with her in her quest to get justice.

Swaraj India had filed a complaint against the corrupt officials and other accused but after no action was taken, the party approached the court demanding an investigation.

On February 7, 2018, the court then ordered an FIR be registered against the MLO of Transport Department Mr. Rajesh Kumar Meena, MVI Mr. Jitendra and the brokers involved in the case. But despite grave complaints of corruption and an order from the court, no action was taken. The Delhi police is in hand-in-glove with the Delhi government in protecting the guilty. Neither have the police arrested the accused officials who have been booked on non-bailable offences, nor has the Delhi government suspend its officials despite charges of brazen corruption.

The level of corruption prevalent among officials at Burari Transport Authority is not possible without direct involvement of the government and ministry officials. Swaraj India’s National Spokesperson Anupam highlighted another such case of a 42 year old driver. Forged documents mentioning the age of driver as 64 was prepared because the driver was ineligible for a new license badge. Even in this case forged documents were prepared which could not have happened without the collusion of MLOs, financiers and brokers. In fact, for people above 60 years of age (senior citizens), acquiring a license badge is not obligatory. In all such cases, a police verification report is compulsory which was also forged.

Swaraj India has demanded that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal immediately suspend these accused officials against whom the FIR has been registered and that the Delhi Police must arrest them as soon as possible. Party’s Delhi State president Anupam demanded that the Transport Minister must resign from his post and take the responsibility of rampant corruption in the department. If the government does not take immediate action on this matter, Delhi’s auto-rickshaw drivers will launch a protest against the corrupt officials and the Ministry of Transportation.
