Follow Avik Saha

Avik Saha is an Indian politician and lawyer whose primary interests are in law, agrarian economy and cultural activism. He has been a advocate practising in the Calcutta High Court specialising in transaction law, since 1998. He is a member of the Calcutta High Court Bar Association and Incorporated Law Society. He was briefly a member of the Aam Aadmi Party from January to May 2014.

Saha is a founding member of Swaraj Abhiyan, Jai Kisan Andolan and political party Swaraj India.

Early Life

Avik Saha’s father was a chartered accountant and his paternal grandfather was a senior executive in the private sector. His wife, Jayati Saha, is an lawyer turned professional photographer. Saha was the managing partner of Kolkata based law firm S.Jalan & Co before he started a firm with his wife, named Saha & Ray. He mostly practised commercial transaction and real estate law.


In 2013, Avik Saha virtually quit the legal profession and became a member of National Alliance for Peoples’ Movements and joined several initiatives of the organisation under the leadership of Medha Patkar. He joined Aam Aadmi Party in January 2014 but quit soon after, in May 2014, due to ideological differences. Together with Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Anand Kumar (sociologist) and Ajit Jha, Saha has formed a new political organisation called Swaraj Abhiyan. He is presently the National Convenor of Jai Kisan Andolan of Swaraj Abhiyan and primarily focuses on farmers issues. On 2nd October 2016, Saha became one of the founding members of the political party Swaraj India and on 2nd October 2018 he was elected the General Secretary of the party.
