SWARAJ INDIA WRITES TO HOME MINISTER & AP CM TO SEIZE PASSPORTS OF VIZAG GAS LEAK COMPANY DIRECTORS
-Swaraj India Shall Track and Follow-up the Vizag Gas Leak Corporate Crime and Not Allow it to be Buried: Christina Samy, Vice-President, Swaraj India
Delhi, 25th May, 2020: Swaraj India Vice-President Christina Samy wrote to the Home Minister of India and Chief Minister of Andhra, urging them to direct the concerned Department/Division of the Ministry/Government to take necessary steps to comply with the directions of the Hon’ble Andhra Pradesh High Court and seize the passports of the Directors of LG Polymers Pvt. Ltd. and if required issue Lookout Notices for them. It was pointed out that this is particularly important as many of the Directors of LG Polymers Pvt. Ltd. are foreign nationals. [Copies of Letters attached to Press Release]
It may be recalled that by an Order dated 22nd May 2020 passed by a Bench of Chief Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Lalitha Kanneganti of the Hon’ble Andhra Pradesh High Court, amongst others, the following directions have been issued with regard to the Directors of LG Polymers Pvt. Ltd.:
1. The Passports of the Directors are to be seized
2. The Directors are not allowed to go outside India without leave of Court
3. The seized passports of the Directors are not be released without leave of Court
It was further suggested by Swaraj India that as a measure of confidence building and assuaging the sentiment of people with regard to the tragic industrial incident at Vizag (which has reminded many Indians about the terrible Bhopal Gas Disaster), the Home Ministry and the AP Govt. should issue a Press Note informing the public at large about the steps taken to (1) comply with the above mentioned Court Order by seizing the Passports of the Directors of LG Polymers Pvt. Ltd. and (2) ensure that the Directors of LG Polymers Pvt. Ltd. do not flee the country. The Home Ministry and the AP Govt. were requested to give wide publicity to the Order/Steps of taken through the usual social media handles and channels.
Swaraj India hopes that both the Home Ministry and the AP Govt. shall promptly take action on the basis of the letters sent by Swaraj India so that corporate negligence in matters of public safety are given due attention and people of India stand assured that their Govts. are looking after their safety and not shielding and protecting corporates who violate law with impunity.
